Well, on October 24th I will be seen at The Mayo Clinic - finally. The transition there was to have started years ago but due to insurance hiccups, I ended up at the University of Iowa. I really really have been wanting to switch to Mayo for one single reason: For thyroid cancer recurrences in the neck with elevated Tg and suspicious lymph nodes - their treatment at Mayo is ethanol ablation. In other words, an injection with alcohol into the neck. No surgery. No radiation. While I hope to live to a ripe old age without another recurrence, I'd sure like to have that option available to me if I should need it.
The doctor I'm seeing is an expert in bone loss and parathyroid issues. This is awesome for me! He also knows how to follow up with thyroid cancer so it's the best of all options. This first visit will hopefully just be a review of my history and maybe some answers on the hyperparathyroidism and bone loss. I'll keep you all posted.
In the meantime, in a week I'll be at the thyroid cancer survivor's conference in Chicago. I'll blog some about that event as well.
