My surgeon's nurse reminded me yesterday that healing is not linear. I reached out to her yesterday after an unexpected sneeze wrecked my day. I've never felt pain like that...easily 7/10 on the pain scale. After wailing, crying and trying to catch my breath, I took an Oxy a few hours earlier than I'd hoped.
The pain took away my appetite (I ate because it was a good idea to eat). It took away my focus. It caused me to be guarded, so as to not feel anything unnecessary. It moved my resting pain up from 1-2 to 3-4. One stupid sneeze. Ouch. A reminder that two of my ribs are broken. A tumor 4.5 inches across was recently removed. A wedge of my lung was taken. Numerous biopsies were performed on my diaphragm. I have a 12 inch incision. I'm human.
The nurse suggested bracing myself with a pillow before sneezing...great idea if I was sitting near a pillow...but I was at the kitchen counter, cleaning strawberries.
Today I'm moving slowly. I'm still down to two Oxys a day, but added the muscle relaxer for nighttime sleep. As a result, my IQ feels about 20 points down. 🤔 I'm groggy.
Today is a new day...
