Torture!

I went to West Des Moines today on business.  I stopped at an Italian Deli on the way home to pick up subs for Alek (dropped one in Ames for him) and for Bob and Olyvia.  It was TORTURE walking through there.  Fresh mozz marinated in olive oil - can't have it.  Fresh grated Romano cheese - can't have it.  Olives marinated in oil with spices - can't have it!

But - I did make a great find!!  I found tomato puree, imported from Italy - containing nothing but tomato - no salt, no preservatives, no nothing!  I got home, toasted garlic in olive oil, added fennel seed, oregano, and black pepper.  Tossed in one box of the tomato puree and simmered while the pasta cooked!  It was yummy!  I did miss the grated cheese, but I used a pinch of Kosher salt and black pepper instead.  It hit the spot.  Now I'm wiped out and gonna go crash - early morning meeting tomorrow...
