Today was Neck Ultrasound and Blood Work day...

I'm not sure how I managed to get March 27th and March 29th mixed up because clearly (see prior post) at some point in time I knew that my appointment was on the 29th.  But, due to me loading it into my calendar wrong - I convinced myself that the appointment was today - the 27th.  The very polite receptionist at the Ultrasound department at U of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics said it was the weather's fault!  She was lovely and managed to squeeze me in - in fact my scan started only five minutes later than when I thought it was scheduled for.

I went to the Medicine Speciality Clinic (where Endocrinology is located) beforehand to do blood work.  I fasted.  This is not a requirement but I read that a fasting parathyroid test would give a more accurate reading.  Since my PTH was elevated last time, I thought I'd just fast to be on the safe side.  They took four vials of blood - full thyroid panel (TSH, T3, Free T4), plus parathyroid hormone, vitamin D, Calcium and of course the cancer marker Thyroglogulin (Tg).  For those of you who care about the details (Inspire readers, others with ThyCa, etc.) this test is an unstimulated Tg test.  So that means it's my Tg while on Synthroid with a low TSH.

The ultrasound went smoothly enough but the tech came back in saying she needed to re-check the right side of my neck.  My first thought - ut oh.  But she said that the radiologist wanted a certain area redone.  I volunteered that "they are following two very small nodules and last time they had gotten slightly smaller indiciating it might be just scar tissue."  She agreed and said "Yes, they are so small I did not even see them so let me take a closer look."  She got what she needed the second time and sent me on my way.

I'll post results when I have them.
